There are a few things that are very unique about Cha-Cha. First of all… The hip movement and staccato footwork. It is very, very “Latin”, sexy and sensual. Its unique rhythm and sound is considered very flirty, infectious and upbeat…although it can also sound very nice slowed down. It is a really fun dance and it can really distinguish you on the dance floor.
Shingo Honda in exhibition at the East Hawaii Cultural Center, Hilo Hawaii opening Saturday May 28, 2016 at 2:00pm through Friday June 24, 2016 features an exuberant selection of paintings and drawings. The episodic presentation includes graphite and colored pencil drawings; abstract and representational paintings executed in a range of media on both paper and canvas.
The workshop will function as a liberal space for the kids to explore creative possibilities under their own perception, using their bodies, the space and other objective materials to make installations, paintings, artistic actions, etc. In this way the children will stimulate their capability to interact in a creative way with their surroundings. The exercises practice techniques inspired by theater, dance and visual arts. They will create their own situations and interpretations as they play, having possibly, for the first time, a formal encounter with conceptual and action art.
Orchid Isle Orchestra will be Bach in Hilo on Sunday, May 22, at 4p.m., at the East Hawaii Cultural Center/Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art. Bach's Double Violin Concerto will be featured. Alden Young returns from his first year of violin study at Boston Conservatory and will join graduating Waiakea High School senior Kayla Rimando as soloists in the first movement.
